The soul by nature is pleasure-seeking. An insignificant ant is looking for pleasure in a grain of sugar, while human beings seek pleasure in family life, sex, good food, prestige, and wealth.
According to the principles of bhakti, the soul finds real happiness in service to God, Krishna. When we use our mind and senses not for our own selfish pleasures but for the service and the pleasure of Krishna, then automatically the real ananda, bliss, of the soul is released.
When our pleasures are in contact with the Supreme, we become purified of all selfish motivations and material attachments. By engaging our senses in the service of Hrishikesha, the Lord of the senses, our senses find the perfect fulfillment. It is not simply the fulfillment of gross senses but the actual fulfillment of the soul. The pleasure of bhakti is the pleasure of the soul manifesting from the very core of our existence and expressing itself through our mind and senses.
