Live an example of how Bhagavad-gita saved someone’s life.

This is the story of my old school friend Nishant from Ajmer, who met me after many years. When he learned that I am an ISKCON member, he started asking me about my faith and practices. I invited him for a satsanga program in Jaipur one evening. After the program, I gave him Srila Prabhupada’s Bhagavad-gita As It Is. He took it to Ajmer and started reading it.

When I met him after four years, I noticed how his life had taken a different turn altogether. A heavy tea addict initially, he had given up taking all forms of intoxicants. He even stopped eating anything that was not offered to Krishna.

Now he regularly goes out to distribute Srila Prabhupada’s books, hears Srila Prabhupada’s lectures,  and travels all the way from Ajmer to Jaipur-a distance of 138 kms-to attend satsanga programs. Whenever possible, he tries to render service to senior devotees and sannyasis and appreciates their association. He is now very happy practicing Krishna consciousness. I could appreciate the potency of Srila Prabhupada’s Bhagavad-gita in saving the life of this person. – Premanjana Dasa, Jaipur

Before I came to Krishna consciousness I used to wake up in the morning thinking that this could be the last day of my life. When I looked ahead, I could see nothing but darkness. I felt nothing worthwhile can save me from a miserable end.

One day I was coming back to my hostel after college feeling miserable, as if the whole burden of the earth was resting on my shoulders. Upon entering the hostel gate, I saw an effulgent personality holding some books in the hand. He smiled at me and gave me a Bhagavad-gita. I opened the book and read a line that shook me to the core of my being: “A miserable person can find happiness in this life only by surrendering to Krishna.” I felt that the book understood how miserable I was. I felt as if some light was entering the dark tunnel of despair of my life. I felt some hope, and as I read the book further it opened the doors of Krishna consciousness for me. After that there was no looking back. Yes! That day my life turned around. From a miserable person I became a happy devotee in Krishna consciousness.- Sita Devi Dasi, Mumbai

Often while travelling on the roads, I see a rat crushed to death under a vehicle, and I shudder at the thought that even I will die one day. I would wonder, “Who am I? Who is God? Can I see Him? Where did I come from, and where will I go? When I came across Bhagavad-gita As It Is, all my illusions were dispelled. I got new lease of life.

I understood that Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. He is my best friend and well-wisher. If I remember Him at the time of death, I will go to His eternal abode, never to meet the horrible death in this world of duality. All I had to do was chant His holy names.- Gayatri Gaitonde, Mumbai
