Narasimha

Prahlada was a great devotee of the Lord
Always thinking and talking about the Lord
He knew the Lord as Supreme throughout creation
All else are subordinate to the Lord's disposition

His father Hiranyakasipu, powerful and proud
Wanted all to proclaim his own grandeur aloud
Forbade worship of the Lord for everyone in his realm
He would punish anyone who dared to disobey him

Prahlada continued his worship, simple and plain
His father was furious, causing him bodily pain
He was flung from a cliff, cast into fire by sly design
Given deadly poision, but all royal efforts were in vain

The Lord greatly abhors any pain to his devotee
Decide to punish Hiranyakasipu with finality
The demon had been granted boons by Brahmaji
Prahlada had to be spared further pain and adversity

The Lord emerged as Narasimhadev, half man, half lion
At twilight, the boons were ineffective, all too soon
The Lord appeared not as man or beast, but Godhead
His Claws were not weapons but the living dead

Hiranyakasipu was slain on the Lord's lap forthwith
When his persecutions and sins had reach their zenith
The Lord's writ is beyond mortal arbitration
The same fate awaits all who distrub His creation

Lord Narasimha proved that nothing is beyond Him
There is a purpose to this creation a stratagem
The Lord also delights in protecting His devotee
Which gives Him sublime pleasure and sweet felicity.
